Prescribed Fire

Plumas Underburn Cooperative

The Plumas Underburn Cooperative (PUC) is a group of landowners and community members helping each other to use prescribed fire as a management tool on private property. Coordinated in collaboration with Plumas County Fire Safe Council.

Community members are the foundation of this group, please consider getting involved if you are interested in land management, prescribed fire, are a landowner, or just want to help our incredible part of the world!

Plumas Cal-TREX

The Feather River Resource Conservation District and partners look forward to bringing a Prescribed Fire Training Exchange (TREX) event to Plumas County. This event has been a multi-year effort to utilize fire to restore forest health, reduce hazardous fuels around communities, and provide access to training and skills development for local residents and professionals.

The weeklong event will be held from April 28th – May 4th 2024 in Greenville, CA. Registration is open until March 1st and can be found by following this link. The cost to attend is $175, but full and partial scholarships have been made available by the Healthy Forest Alliance.

This event brings together fire professionals and non-traditional partners in a joint effort to restore the ecological and community protection benefits of “good fire.” Using an “All Hands, All Lands” approach to increase the number of qualified personnel able to work on professional prescribed fire projects, the TREX model provides peer-to-peer learning and training for fire professionals to gain certifications and experience. It is a model that supports local prescribed fire groups like the Plumas Underburn Cooperative (PUC), which is partly sponsoring the event.
